Meet the Teacher: Katherine “Kate” Hudson

It’s nice to meet everyone. My name is Katherine “Kate” Hudson and I am the new middle school language arts teacher at St. Vincent de Paul. Thank you all for your warm welcome. I’ve recently moved to the area from New Lexington, Ohio. However, I grew up in Delaware, Ohio. I graduated from Ohio Wesleyan with a major in English and a minor in education.

I greatly enjoy book recommendations from my students as an avid fantasy and science fiction reader. It’s not uncommon to find house plants around my classroom for my gardening hobby. Also, on occasion, I’ll take photos of natural scenes to remind me of the blessings God creates every day in my life. If you see me at school functions or around town, feel free to call out.

What year did you start teaching at STV? What do you teach at STV? 2021 and 6th, 7th, and 8th grade language arts

What awards have you ever received in you life?

Most of my awards have been for volunteer work with Kiwanis

What do you enjoy most about work? I enjoy the welcoming atmosphere from the school, the friendly staff, and the respectful students.

When you're not working, what do you do? I enjoy reading fantasy and science fiction novels. I also love gardening.

What's the best advice you've ever received? Everyone is a reader. Some just haven't found the right book yet.

What or who can't you live without? I can't live without my family and God.

The best part about waking up? The best part of waking up is knowing that I'm going to my dream job each morning.

If you won the lottery, what would you do first? I would pay off my student loans and ensure my family is taken care of.

What was the last experience you had that made you a stronger person? Before I found my first full-time teaching position, I was a substitute teacher for long-term positions. During that time, I had the opportunity to work with a plethora of kids with different life experiences and that came from different walks of life.

What was the first thing you bought with your own money? The first things I remember buying with my own money was a mother's day gift. My school was doing a fundraiser using stuffed animals and I saw my mother's favorite animal: a panda.

If you could meet anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be?

I would love to meet my great-great-grandmother on my mother's maternal side. She passed away a week before I was born. However, according to my parents, she was so excited to hear about her first great-great-grandchild and sewed my first baby blanket. I've heard many stories about her throughout the years and would love to have the opportunity to speak to her and tell her how much my parents appreciated her support.

What is the best book you've ever read? Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

If you could go back in time, where would you go? I would love to see the 80s. I've heard many stories from my parents.

We would like to thank Kate Hudson for participating in our Meet the Teacher feature!
