St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School Receives Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education

MOUNT VERNON, OHIO — September 23, 2026 — St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School is proud to announce that it has been recognized with the Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education, presented by The Ohio Academy of Science and the Ohio Department of Development.

St. Vincent de Paul is one of only three schools in the Diocese of Columbus to receive this distinguished recognition, highlighting the school’s commitment to providing students with meaningful opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The honor recognizes schools that demonstrate excellence in STEM education and encourage students to develop the curiosity, critical-thinking skills and problem-solving abilities that are essential for future learning and success.

Adding to this special recognition, Mrs. Sharon Tharp, St. Vincent de Paul’s middle school science teacher, has also been nominated and will receive recognition through the Thomas Edison Award program. Mrs. Tharp’s dedication to science education, hands-on learning and fostering curiosity in her students has made a lasting impact on the St. Vincent school community for nearly four (4) decades!

This achievement reflects the dedication of St. Vincent de Paul’s teachers and staff, as well as the enthusiasm of students who are encouraged each day to explore, ask questions, solve problems and grow as learners.
